Program Description
Building Services Engineering teaches you how to design, install, and maintain the technical systems that make buildings safe, comfortable, and efficient. You will study electrical wiring, lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, fire safety, energy management, CAD drafting, and basic building automation. The program combines classroom theory with hands-on workshops and CAD practice so you can create working system drawings and carry out simple installations. Graduates can work with construction firms, facilities management companies, utility providers, or continue to university programs in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, or ICT roles such as building automation and IT support. This course builds practical skills and opens pathways to well-paid, in-demand jobs in Ghana and beyond.
Aims & Objectives
Develop accurate CAD and BIM drawings for common building services within project requirements, completing at least three scaled drawings.
Master basic installation and testing procedures for electrical circuits, lighting, and HVAC systems through practical workshop assessments.
Understand and apply Ghanaian building codes, safety standards, and basic fire protection principles to real project scenarios.
Create energy-efficient solutions and perform simple energy calculations to reduce building energy use by measurable amounts in class projects.
Why Choose This Program?
Strong job demand
Construction and facility services are growing in Ghana, creating steady demand for technicians and engineers who can design and maintain building systems.
Hands-on learning
Practical workshops, CAD labs, and site-like exercises prepare you for real work, not just theory, so you can start technical roles quickly.
Pathway to engineering and tech careers
This program gives clear routes to further study in mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, or roles in building automation and IT support.
Work on sustainable and smart buildings
You will learn skills used in energy efficiency, renewable integration, and smart building systems, areas that are expanding in Ghana.
